This catalog lists Minutes of Commission meetings and agendas in chronological order, and staff memorandums in numerical order. Each entry has a link to the Adobe Acrobat .pdf) version of the file.

Source: These materials have been scanned from the Commission's Minutes Books. A "Minutes Book" is a volume collecting the Minutes, Final Agenda, and all memorandums that were considered or set for consideration at a meeting. (If a memo was not considered at a particular meeting, it is not repeated in a later subdirectory on the CD-ROM, regardless of the composition of the Minutes Book.)

Minutes Books have traditionally been kept in the form of Acco binders. The files in this set were scanned from the materials before they were deposited with State Archives. For the Ur-text, you should consult State Archives.

Disposition of Memos: Memos are not typically considered in numerical order. Memos set for consideration at one meeting may be considered at a later meeting because the time ran out, or may be continued over several meetings in the case of lengthy drafts. While a memo may appear more than once in the Minutes Books, or may be included only in the first scheduled hearing or a later one, the file is on this disk only once. To track the Commission's consideration of a memo, you should find it on an agenda and check the corresponding Minutes to see whether it was considered. Unfortunately, since these are image files, you will not be able to perform a text search.

Exceptions: The files do not include reproductions of items such as law review articles, bills, Commission background studies published elsewhere, and other materials that were not generated by the Commission staff. In some cases, however, memorandum exhibits composed of published materials have been included because the original would now be very difficult to find, such as a tentative draft of a Restatement article or uniform act provision. Incomplete files are indicated by "-Z" in the file name.

Omissions in the sequence of memo numbers are not mistakes. All gaps have been double-checked. They were either mistakenly skipped or reflect memos that were never written.

Quality: Until the end of 1978, Commission meeting materials were reproduced by mimeograph. The original quality was not as good as modern photocopies, and over time it appears that the ink has spread some in the softer paper used for mimeo reproduction. There is no better "original" than the ones we have scanned from the Commission's Minutes Books. The scanning could have been done at a higher DPI level, but I adopted a compromise between resolution and file size that preserves legibility without too much sacrifice. Scanning was set at 200 dpi. Yellow and dark blue papers (on which some exhibits were reproduced in this era) presented problems -- yellow scans can be quite faded out, and blue are overly dark.
