Statutes Made Obsolete by Trial Court Restructuring

    The Legislature has directed the Law Revision Commission to review the codes and determine whether any provisions are obsolete due to trial court restructuring. See Gov't Code § 71674. In 2002, the Commission issued an extensive recommendation on this subject. See Part 1. The Commission issued further recommendations in 2003 and 2006. See Part 2 and Part 3. All of these recommendations have been enacted. See 2002 Cal. Stat. ch. 784; 2003 Cal. Stat. ch. 149; ACA 15, approved by the voters Nov. 5, 2002 (Proposition 48); 2007 Cal. Stat. ch. 43.
    In 2007, the Commission issued a recommendation on Appellate Jurisdiction on Bail Forfeiture, a recommendation relating to Transfer of Case Based on Lack of Jurisdiction, and a recommendation on miscellaneous issues relating to trial court restructuring (Part 4). The Commission will seek introduction of these recommendations in the Legislature in 2008.
    The Law Revision Commission is continuing to review statutes made obsolete by trial court restructuring.
